On test day you’ll be asked to evaluate one of these issue topics and write a coherent response on the matter in no more than 30 minutes. Next you’ll do the same with one of these argument topics (also 30 minutes).
The Analytical Writing is scored separately from the rest of the GRE exam and it’s up to the graduate programs how they use this assessment.
One of the very best ways to prepare for this section of the exam is to to write a few of these of essays, then submit them for editing. Your editor will critique your writing and provide suggestions on how to adjust your approach in order to finish on time and get more points.
The hours apply to the editing work and written critique, as well as any follow up discussion (in person or online) with your editor.
